Landscapes and Skyscapes(Lightpollution in the peaks and more)

Page history last edited by Samantha 12 years, 9 months ago

My name is Samantha, and I am an visiting astrophysics student in Cardiff doing a summer internship with NTU about light pollution.

Light pollution is a growing problem as a direct result of modern civilisation. In addition to brightening the skies too much for us to see most of the stars, light pollution also affects animals and can even harm human health.

My work involves the prevalence of light pollution in the peak district, particularly in regions of archeological interest such as Magpie Mines, etc. I will be taking panorama photos of these areas and rendering them in Stellarium to demonstrate how the night sky looks now in these areas, as well as how it looked to people who inhabited these areas before the advent of modern civilisation and light pollution.

This will be added to...

I have visited the following sites:

You can download the list of Stellarium landscapes I made from ancient sites here.

Last but not least, I left some advice for any new placement students working with panoramas/Stellarium here.

Hi Samantha,

Feel free to use this as a starting page for all the bits of work you're doing over the next few weeks...
