The way we use and work with 3D environments in Stellarium is using a 3D plug-in. This plug-in comes with the program, when it is installed onto a computer.
Using the 3D Plug-in in Stellarium:
Firstly you will need to open up Stellarium and click on the "configuration window", which can be found on the left of the screen. Next click on the "Plug-Ins" tab, which will open up a new tab within Stellarium.
|
You should look for the plug-in named "3D Sceneries". As the plug-ins are usually arranged in alphabetical order, this can be found right on the top. Click on this to open it, if it is not automatically opened. Then all you have to do is tick the "Load at startup" box, which can be found at the bottom of the grey tab, and close the program.

When you open up Stellarium again, you should see that three new icons have appeared on the task bar, at the bottom of the screen. Click on the middle one to bring up the 3D scenery selection menu. Unless you have uploaded any 3D environments into Stellarium, you will have a choice of two environments. Select one by clicking on it and close the menu. You are now in a 3D Landscape.
Moving around the 3D Environment:
-All the usual Stellarium controls, for example zoom in/out are exactly the same.
-To move around the plane, you need to press control key and the arrow facing the direction you want to move in. If you want to move faster. press the shift key as well as control.
